The Allegheny County Health Department’s (ACHD) Air Quality Program faces a nearly $2 million deficit. This raises serious concerns about the program’s ability to effectively monitor air quality and enforce regulations on polluters throughout the county.
To address this funding gap, ACHD is proposing to increase air permit fees on polluters. By increasing permit fees we won’t have to tap into the county’s taxpayer funded general fund or the Clean Air Fund which is dedicated to supporting community projects that improve air quality. The proposal is currently before Allegheny County Council for approval.
