On Thursday, December 12th, Austin City Council Members acting in their role as the Board of Austin Energy (AE) will vote on a draft power plan for our city-owned utility.
This vote will take us down one of two paths. The first path is one that Austinites have called for and supported over and over-- shifting our electricity away from harmful, costly, fossil-fuel-generated energy and scaling up local solar, local battery storage, and energy efficiency to reduce electric demand. The other path is one of breaking commitment, locking in decades more health- and planet-harming pollution, and losing control to ERCOT for future decisions on how to run any remaining gas plants.
We have made so much progress-- including the huge recent expansion of rooftop solar installations, which haven't yet had the chance to prove their capacity.
Please send a message to the Mayor and City Council and demand that they reject any plan that increases reliance on fossil fuels instead of investing in clean energy.
