Reclaim Renewable Energy in 2025!

The Reclaim Renewable Energy Act (HB220/SB10) will fix a costly mistake in Maryland: that for fourteen years, we've wasted our "renewable energy" subsidies on trash incineration.

Trash incineration just isn't clean or renewable energy – it pollutes more to produce energy than coal, and it spews mercury, lead, and carcinogens into the air we breathe. But we throw away more and more of our "renewable energy" money on trash incineration each year: subsidies to incinerators from Maryland doubled from $12 million to $24 million between 2020 and 2023. When Maryland finally passes the Reclaim Renewable Energy Act, those funds will be redirected to the renewable energy we actually need: either to renewable energy projects directly, or through payments from utilities to the state's Strategic Energy Investment Fund which will be earmarked for renewable energy projects benefiting low-income Marylanders - sorely needed now more than ever.

But for that to happen, the legislature needs to act now! We're facing a critical deadline on March 17 for the Reclaim Renewable Energy Act to come to a vote. Contact your legislators to support the Reclaim Renewable Energy Act today!
