Everyone has a right to be protected from toxic chemicals in the products we buy, the air we breathe, the food we eat, and the water we drink.
The chemical industry is lobbying hard to undermine protections that ban harmful chemicals, require health and safety data before chemicals can be used, and uphold the right of states to implement laws stronger than the federal government.
The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was updated in 2016 to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals linked to chronic diseases like cancer and liver failure. The law is working — that’s why the chemical lobby wants to weaken it and trade public health for profits.
TSCA has resulted in bans on dangerous chemicals, like the deadly solvents trichloroethylene (TCE) and methylene chloride. Part of why this law works is because states can protect the health of their communities by enacting stronger programs than required by the federal government, such as banning chemicals like PFAS (also known as “forever chemicals”), which protects their residents from the health impacts and cleanup costs.
Your representatives in Congress need to hear from you that this law is working and it should not be weakened.
