For safer septic systems, MD needs inspections!

Septic systems are a critical piece of infrastructure that treats the wastewater coming off individual properties, so it is less hazardous to human health and the environment. It is critical that they are functioning, but because they are buried in the yard it is easy for them to silently fail and go unnoticed.

HB0146/SB0165, from Delegate Guyton and Senator Brooks, would require a septic system inspection when a home is sold or when a new tenant moves into a rental home. Inspections are an effective tool to catch these failing septic systems earlier, protecting human health and the environment from untreated waste.

But the Senate EEE Committee is considering removing this critical inspection requirement from the bill - tell the legislature to support inspections and keep this bill intact!
