The Problem with Paraquats

Paraquat dichloride is a highly toxic, non-selective herbicide used in industrial agriculture. It's so dangerous that 70 countries, including China, Brazil, and all members of the European Union, have banned the use of paraquat.

Why ban paraquats?

• Acute paraquat poisoning has an estimated 50-90% mortality rate

• It can easily spread to nearby water, killing freshwater fish, crustaceans, and invertebrates

• It has been strongly linked to neurodegenerative diseases like Parkinson’s Disease

According to the American Journal of Epidemiology, “living within 500 meters of fields sprayed with paraquat was linked to about a 75% higher risk of Parkinson’s disease.”

What the bill HF 3965 (Tabke)/SF 4160 (Hoffman) will do:

• Prohibit the sale of paraquat dichloride by 2027

• Prohibit the use of paraquat dichloride by 2028
