DETAILS:
This truck count and air monitor session is part of our Zero Emissions Now Campaign-advocating for both local and statewide policy to reduce diesel truck pollution from NJ’s freight & goods movement system. This truck count will consist of counting trucks for approximately 1 hour along the intersections of 1st Street and South Street, 1st Street and Trumbull in Elizabeth, NJ.
Atmotube air monitor sensors will be used to capture the concentration of P.M 2.5 (Particulate Matter), a common air pollutant from diesel trucks.
Collecting this data and organizing annual truck counts in diesel hotpots like Elizabeth (close to ports and lots of warehouses!), will be used to advocate for statewide policy like the NJ ISR (Indirect Source Review) bill in addition to establishing local Kids Clean Air Zones (KCAZ) - which is truck rerouting policy in the form of local ordinances designed to improve both air quality and public health for the communities being exposed the most to truck pollution!
Food and refreshments will be provided for all participants.
